September 3rd, 2003 It's times like these that I wish I was still back in high school. Shortly before I left to go back to D.C. for my senior (gasp!) year of college, I was able to see my brother off to his first day of school. I was even tricked into waiting in those long, winding, unproductive lines in the Sacred Heart parking lot to pick him up...and while I was waiting I suprised myself by wanting to be one of those uniformed kids. At least in high school, no matter how cool you have to pretend to be, you still always get a little bit excited about the first day of school. You know all the faces you'll see and the teachers and hallways and nothing is new. Everyone meets up during the 15 minute break in the morning and talks about everything they weren't able to get into the 2 hour conversations on the phone the night before. I suppose it's not that much different now that I'm a senior again and know all the tricks and trade of this university. But there's still no excitement about going to class or buying new school supplies or that new backpack. I don't even like moving into a new dorm every year, in fact I despise it... Ah well, times change...got to get myself motivated for the semester ahead so I don't fall under the booze wagon. |
