hillarious
November 8th, 2004

I think it's hillarious how various people in my nursing class are now picking up my lingo and FINALLY realizing how funny I am. They refer to me as "dude" or yell "yo" as a greeting in the computer lab or the hallways of the building. I'm no longer the wierd girl who swears a lot and keeps quite most of the time, except to utter a sarcastic comment or two under her breath during class.

I'm so glad we're past that initial stage of everyone thinking that I'm a bitch and unfriendly and aloof. People now understand that I'm being sarcastic and flippant, not arrogant and hostile. We can joke about commonalities, professors, god damn annoying classmates, and even life at large. We're setting up play dates and happy hours and holiday parties.

I'm sure that I could have made this whole transitional process easier by being a little more proactive and solicitious and "nice" but that's not my initial nature when I'm thrown into a brand new environment. I suppose I believe that in time people will most likely come around and realize that I am genuinely nice and humorous and just trying to do my thing, while not taking it all too seriously. Which is almost always the case.

The same is true for my roomates. Even though I've been living here for a little over 2 months, they now are able to see that while I can be a little quirky, I'm generally normal and fun. We share things about our lives, aside from the obligatory greetings and queries on how our days were. We watch trash TV together and share recipies. Overall, it's working out really well, for as much as I had doubts about living with 3 random girls.

Anyway - I'm just happy that things are rounding out and I actually am cultivating a life here in Boston. Some days it just becomes so clear why it's important to take a look at all the good things in life that are so easily overlooked.
